Aldi at MoRA Point opens at end of February

Events, News

We have been watching the new construction at MoRA Point just as closely as the rest of our neighbors. Now we finally have an opening date for the new Aldi grocery store. The official opening comes with a ribbon cutting, gift card giveaways, a sweepstakes for one year of produce, and food samples.

To celebrate the store opening, ALDI will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 8:25 a.m., followed by its popular Golden Ticket giveaway offering gift cards to the first 100 customers. Shoppers can also sample ALDI-exclusive brand foods and enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a year’s supply of ALDI produce.

The Monroe Road area was part of Aldi’s aggressive US expansion that will extend into 2022. Residents have long complained about the lack of grocery stores between Matthews and Oakhurst and Aldi will help with convenient shopping.

The new Charlotte ALDI store layout provides an improved in-store experience and features additional refrigeration space to accommodate even more fresh, healthy and convenient products. Compared to last year, 20 percent of the ALDI product selection is new. The ALDI product expansion is the next phase of the company’s aggressive, national growth and remodel plan. As part of the product expansion, ALDI is increasing its fresh food selection by 40 percent with many organic, convenient and easy-to-prepare options. ALDI stores also feature open ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally-friendly building materials. The store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Not familiar with Aldi? Their stores carry a constantly changing supply of foods significantly cheaper than other local stores, and have more recently expanded their organic and premium offerings. Remember to bring reusable bags for your items and a quarter for the grocery cart, both examples of cost-savings measures that keep prices exceptionally low.

MoRA is ecstatic about the new development which will also include a Starbucks, a Verizon, and Supercuts store. The area is a great example of the change occurring up and down the Monroe Road corridor with developers turning an overlooked business park into something that serves the community.

Kathy Hill, the long-time head of MoRA loves seeing the neighborhood services improve in the heart of the neighborhood.

This is another step forward for our community in southeast Charlotte. Aldi will help fill the need for a grocery store in the heart of MoRA, especially for those looking to walk or bike to the store. Aldi even upgraded their finishes and changed their footprint to more closely align with the urban, walkable vision for the future of the MoRA area. Aldi’s new look, along with their updated product lines (organic, healthy) are great for everyone. Aldi and MoRA Point are an important part in the revitalization of the area, along with nearby developments Meridian Place and Oakhurst on Monroe, give neighbors fresh, new, and local options.
