East Meck student-athletes have hearts and minds of gold

MoRA caught up with East Meck Athletic Director, Jason Fowler, who shared the following successes and celebrations of some incredible student-athletes at EMHS. (He conveniently left out that he was recently awarded the staff Golden Eagle Award by Principal Rick Parker. Well done, Mr. Fowler!)

Here’s an end-of-year update straight from the AD’s office.

East Meck celebrated six student-athletes who have signed academic/athletic scholarships to continue playing sports at the next level. These student-athletes were both leaders on the field of play as well as in the classroom. All six served various roles within the school, including Student Congress, Project Unify Club, Athletes in Action, and various other community service organizations. Collectively, they averaged a 3.8 GPA while participating in IB, AP, and Dual Enrollment at CPCC as well.

Student Awards Day Celebration

East Meck held its annual student awards day celebration on Monday, May 23.  During the ceremony, former East Meck teacher and beloved football coach Robert Forshee was honored by having a new scholarship awarded in his name. Coach Forshee lost his battle with cancer on January 6, 2022 at the age of 43.

The scholarship was funded by a partnership with James Fisher-Davis and his company, Equilibrium UP and the East Meck Athletic Booster Club. The scholarship is currently funded for 4 years, and we will be looking for partnerships to help continue to fund this yearly.

Coach Fisher-Davis works with athletes and businesses on programming, team-building, and leadership skills. Carly Forshee, wife of Coach Forshee, presented the inaugural award to D’andre Hunt, for his selflessness, hard work, and dedication to the East Meck football program.

Hearts of Gold

Community service is a major component of the East Meck Athletic Department mission statement. Each team during the season is required to choose a community service partner and complete a community service project with the coaches and student-athletes.

EM Baseball Team helping out at Carolina Miracle League

Last weekend, our baseball team worked with the Carolina Miracle League to provide skills, coaching, and support within the game of baseball to young athletes with developmental disabilities. Our team had a great experience, and has reached out about continuing to work with Miracle League not only during baseball season, but throughout the year.
