With festive activities around every pumpkin-piled corner, October feels like a month of Saturdays along Monroe Road.

 

Month of October“Pumpkins for Parkinson’s” at Vaulted Oak. All pumpkins are $10 or enjoy a pint + a pumpkin for $15. Proceeds benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Sunday, Oct. 15 – Final weekend of Bard at The Barn. FREE performance of “As You Like It” by Shephered Shakespeare. 11am at 8300 Monroe Rd. Bring your own chair!

Sunday, Oct. 15FREE jazz concert by ASC Culture Blocks. Featuring A Sign of the Times of the Carolinas and Los Yaya Latin Jazz Band. 4:30p at MoRA’s Embrace Sculpture. Food & drink available for purchase from Margarita’s Deli (pupusas, chicken tamales, horchata, and tamarindo) and Edge City Brewery (soda, kombucha, beer, and wine).

Oct. 13-15“Pumpkinfest” at Oaklore Distilling Co. Brats & sauerkraut, live music, pumpkin patch, and bottle release of Bloody Butcher Corn.

Wednesday, Oct. 18Student Showcase: Bake Sale at Sweet Spot Studio at 6:30p. All baked goods made by students graduating from their 12-week professional training course. 100% of donations go to support Foster Village Charlotte. Enjoy your goods with $1 off wine by the glass at Common Market.

Saturday, Oct. 21Autumn Art Show, 10a-4p at Banner Nursery at 4400 Monroe Rd. Art, prints, books, music and more.

Saturday, Oct. 21 Tricks and Treats, 2-5p at Clt Cirque and Dance Center. Costume contest, games, prizes, performances, and more.

Saturday, Oct. 21Throwdown Hootenanny at Common Market Oakwold. Think: Wrestling and Halloween meets Hee-Haw and The Grand Ole Opry. Costumes encouraged. WWE wrestling, 4-6p. Classic country karaoke, 6:30p. Plus, Talco the Clown, animal balloons, and temporary tattoos. Benefiting Via Health Partners (formerly Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region.)

Saturday, Oct. 21Trunk or Treat, presented by East Meck Student Council and Diamond Stars Club. Dress up and join EMHS for fun, games, and candy. 5-7pm in the upper staff parking lot at 6800 Monroe Rd. 

Saturday, Oct. 21Out of the Ashes Candlelight 5k and interactive walk at 6:30p. Last chance to form a team is 10/17.

Sunday, Oct. 22 – 60th Anniversary of Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller, The Birds. 1p at Cinemark Bistro. Tickets.

Sunday, Oct. 22Biketoberfest fundraiser to benefit Sustain Charlotte. Short and long routes & prizes available. Plus, an afterparty with live music and giveaways. 

Monday, Oct. 23 – 60th Anniversary of Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller, The Birds. 7p at Cinemark Bistro. Tickets.

Tuesday, Oct. 24 – Fall Choir Concert, 6:30p at East Meck H.S. Suggested $5 donation.

Friday, Oct. 27 – Halloween Party. Pet costume contest, live music, candy, prizes, and Cutting Board food truck. 6-9p at Edge City Brewery.

Saturday, Oct. 28Rollin’ Stonehaven 5k & Fall Fest. Run, walk, or scoot. Rama Swim Club, 6109 Wheeler Dr. at 9am. No need to register. Just show up!

Saturday, Oct. 28Trunk or Treat at Rama Swim Club, 5:30p to 8:30p. Magdalena’s Taqueria truck, Spooky Boba Tea, fun Halloween music, and a Candy Obstacle Course.

Saturday, Oct. 28 – Halloween Party at Vaulted Oak. Dog custome contest & pumpkin carving contest.

Sunday, Oct. 29Halloween Family Yoga, 2p at the Embrace Sculpture. Enjoy a 45- minute spook-tacular class recommended for children ages 4-12 and their grownups. Costumes are optional, fun is required. Ticket includes yoga, family photo and Halloween treats!

Monroe Road Advocates (MoRA) is grassroots group of volunteers from Monroe Road neighborhoods, businesses, nonprofits, and schools. We’re connecting community in the corridor from Lupie’s/7th Street to NC-51.
