We’ve been tracking this one for a while! Monroe Road will soon have its first microdistillery: “Bottle shop, bar, and your story—Oaklore.”
Matthews residents, Matt Simpkins and Thomas Bogan, have worked diligently to get the rezoning necessary for their business, and it’s been well worth it. The unique, stone and wooden property at Monroe Rd / Hwy-51 will officially open as Oaklore this summer.
Simpkins and Bogan are creating a space for community—for sharing stories—which is how this whole idea began.
You will be able to join friends on the back patio near a large stone fireplace to enjoy a variety of Oaklore’s spirits: whiskey, moonshine, vodka, gin, and rum. C5’s Heidi Finley reports there will even be a slushy machine behind the bar.
Monroe Road Advocates (MoRA) is grassroots group of volunteers from Monroe Road neighborhoods, businesses, nonprofits, and schools. We’re connecting community in the corridor from Lupie’s/7th Street to NC-51.
